Cut and Run, Mr. President

Cut and Run
(by R.P.Edwards)

Heady
From the victory won
You never thought of
Cut and run
Overwhelming
All…your way
Your words…were wonders
Your plans…full sway
But like the wind
Directions turn
Ambitions crumble
As people…learn
And with the rising
Of “this” sun
Some dared to whisper
“Cut…and run”
But no!
The mandate
Firm is mine!
Just one more speech
Some added time
And Drive! And Drive!
Until…is done
While wounded cry out
“Cut…and run!
Withdraw!
Regroup!”
Your soldiers say
“We’ll come in strength
Another day!
Give up this quest
This battle…lost!”
But you… unsighted
disdain the cost
And so…they charge
In faithful due
But with the gain
They fall…for you
And as they’re trampled
 every one
Their final gasp
“please, cut…and run”

“Cut your losses.  Quit while you’re ahead.  He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.  Cut…and run.”  All phrases associated with wisdom in warfare; be it on the battlefield with bombs and bullets, or in other, less violent venues, including politics (especially politics!)  Yes, choose your battles wisely, and let your ultimate “vision” include the useful preservation…of your troops.

And so, against the rising tide of public opinion; and against the advice of many in his own party; the president is determined, come hell or high water, to shove the odious Senate healthcare bill down our collective throats.  Truly, he is single-minded.  A resolute believer.  And, apparently, nothing less than the behemoth…is acceptable.  In the meantime, torches and pitchforks are being prepared for those representatives and senators who, by backing this monstrosity, treat their constituents as mindless rubes.  But, instead of storming the castle, the voting booth will receive the ire…of the masses.

Perhaps the chief executive should reconsider the advice of…cut…and run.

That’s what I think.  How about you?  Click comments below…and say.
