The National ill

The National ill
(by R.P.Edwards)

I resign myself
To the National ill
As evil rises
And has its fill
With God debased
And man...held high
If not abated
We'll surely
Die

Ah, it's Mother's Day (nearing the end thereof) and although I had thought to drop a line or two in praise of mothers who truly are, the national dialogue on President Obama's weigh-in on same sex marriage grabs my attention.

I fear for my country. Why? Well, it's not that a prominent politician (decent fellow that he is) is on the wrong side of the God issues (abortion, marriage), but that, from recent polling...it seems so many of my neighbors are leaning in the same direction.

You see (and call me naive) but I really do believe that this nation had a divine birth.  That deity was mentioned four times in the Declaration of Independence...deliberately.  And that, what was so obvious in the beginning (that WE need HIM), now we wise inheritors have assigned the Almighty to the role of flavor or tint.  He is insignificant.  A "not real anyway" inconvenience.  A vestige organ in our body politic.

But, dear reader, it behooves us to recall that so many of our modern "ministers;" (the 'mouths,' if you will) be they in academia, the media, Hollywood, Washington, or even behind a once sanctified church pulpit; it behooves us to remember that our blessed America came not one whit from these who so confidently dare to define what is right; and what is wrong.

And so...I fear.  I fear that we who dance the dance of carefree apostasy; hopping, and skipping, and twirling ever farther from our stable center and ever closer to the precipice of pride; I fear that without a national revival...we will surely, soon, step off...and in.

And, as for me--as the once unthinkable becomes thunk and done-- I cannot fathom how any person who cracks their Bible, and believes; I cannot fathom how one of these of genuine faith can enter the sacred booth and cast their vote for those who mock their God and invite His rebuke.

Move the statue

New York et. al.
(by R.P.Edwards)

I fear for my country
The home of the brave
We bow to our beast
Becoming…it’s slave
Contempt for the fathers
Disdain for their tools
While we eat of “their” harvest
And whisper
“What fools”

And so, with much celebration, New York has gone the way of the “other” enlightened states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire) in allowing same-sex marriage.  Once again, the God of their Constitution, the God of our fathers, the God of the “endowed by their Creator“…got it wrong.  Just for fun, here’s part of the meaningless preamble to the Empire State’s premier document:

The People of the State of New York, grateful to Almighty God for our Freedom, in order to secure its blessings, DO ESTABLISH THIS CONSTITUTION

You know, I understand how some will cover and confuse the issue with the abstract absolute of L..O..V..E, (ignoring, of course, that in fairness the definition of marriage must now be expanded ad infinitum), but we’re talking society here.  The nurturing of children.  The bedrock of the family unit.  And, when those who have been so exquisitely schooled at the sewers of higher education; when these wrestle from God that which is only His to decree, then, choosing this path; to knowingly, arrogantly step outside of His sphere of blessing, they, by their actions; well...they then invite His “unblessing”.

Yes, yes, I know this is very “religious” and not at all in the comfort zone of “conservatism,” but, if the foundation of our Republic becomes corrupt; then who cares if we balance the budget, or control our borders, or repeal Obamacare?  And, although we pedestalize (a word I just invented) those who make money, or tickle us with their “talent,“ the truth is…a prosperous whoremonger is  worthy only of contempt.

One final extremist thought (that’s funny isn’t it.  I’m an “extremist” because I believe in traditional marriage), since the political world is increasingly complex these days, we, whoever “we” are, must, we MUST become aware of the value of our vote.  As mentioned in a previous post, thanks to Illinois voters putting in Governor Quinn, we are now sliding ever closer to Gomorrah.  However, I’m sure, before the election, many groups endorsed the man because of his “friendly” attitude towards Unions, or some other special interest (remember, a pro-union union guy is writing this!).  But, with his “carrot,” came the chain. And although I hope we prosper under his reign, I’ll truly be amazed if we do.

Another final thought (we’ll call it an amendment).  Over the last sixty five years (thanks in great part to the Supreme Court) we’ve been told over and over that the “God thing” is a garnish, an inconsequential, a “not to be taken seriously” archaic belief.  That “God” really had nothing to do with the birth, beginnings, or greatness of this Republic.  Well, all their careful planting is finally coming to harvest. Let’s just see if the fruit of their labors…is what they expected.

Hopefully my next post will be light and fluffy.

Ignorance in high places

Ignorance in high places
(by R.P.Edwards)

Ignorance
The ancient scourge
Oft aligned with way…and urge
A darkness for the devil’s deeds
Though often clothed in rules…and creeds
But think it not
The pauper’s tool
The sword of cads, and scoundrels…fools
For these but prick
With letting saw
But those that kill
They craft …the law

Eugenics. Big in the early part of the last century.  A helping hand to the Darwinian idea of “survival of the fittest.” It involved selective human breeding.  Breed in certain traits.  Breed out…others.  Allow some to reproduce; sterilize the undesirable.  And oh, Adolph H. ran with it but, truthfully, there were many in this country that added their “amen.”

Anyway, along the same vein there were, in many states, laws against the “mixing” of the races.  Miscegenation.  Some believed that the “white” folk should not marry non-whites and, by golly, it was a crime to do so.

Enter Mildred Jeter (black) and Richard Loving (white).  These two--like the surname--were in love, but there was a problem; they lived in Virginia and the law was agin’em. So, the lovebirds crossed over to DC, got married, and then went back.  Not much later, when, in the dark of night the police violently broke into their bedroom, the youngsters began to understand that the out of state marriage license (as far as the locals were concerned)…meant nothing.

Well, time and trouble later, the Supreme Court set everything right by invoking the fourteenth amendment (Equal Protection Claus.)  Here’s some quotes from the case:

The clear and central purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment was to eliminate all official state sources of invidious racial discrimination in the States.

Over the years, this Court has consistently repudiated "[d]istinctions between citizens solely because of their ancestry" as being "odious to a free people whose institutions are founded upon the doctrine of equality."

The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men.

Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival.

Now, fast forward to today and the uproar and upheaval concerning “gay marriage.”  After Judge Walker’s recent overturning of the people’s will in California by saying that restricting marriage to “one man and one woman” was unconstitutional, some commentators I respect suggested the coming (years away) Supreme Court battle will involve a rehash of the Loving vs. Virginia case leading, ultimately, to gay marriage.  Then, in passing, there was a brief comparison of the past error of “no-mix” to the present belief by some, “male and female, only.” Huh?

Well, unless I heard them wrong (I hope I did) this sentiment shows their profound…ignorance.  For, although it is popular in elite circles to equate sexual desire with race, the facts don’t back it up.  Indeed, I’ve heard, first hand, the testimony of an ex-homosexual (and read many more), but I’ve never heard the witness of an ex-white, or ex-black.  It’s plain to see: race and sexual orientation…are not the same.  However, when all is said and done I wouldn’t be surprised if the learned elite…have their way.  And, concerning their “I can’t believe such a law existed” words they ascribe to future generations looking back at the banning of gay marriage; I dare say the phrase “will” be spoken; but I’ll wager it will be aimed at the well groomed know-it-alls of today who, ultimately, know…little.
