Christie says, "I don't!"

Marriage
(by R.P.Edwards)

It's not the same!
It's not the same!
Though some would fight
To claim the name
The marriage bond
By God ordained
All other "joins"
Are not the same!

What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.
(Mark 10:9)

"I am adhering to what I've said since this bill was first introduced -- an issue of this magnitude and importance, which requires a constitutional amendment, should be left to the people of New Jersey to decide,"

Post-poem; the first quote comes from the incarnate Word; the Son of the Living God; the Way, the Truth, and the Life; the Light of the world; the Good Shepherd; the Redeemer; the Savior; the Advocate...Jesus Christ. The second quote comes from the Governor of New Jersey upon his decision to follow through with the promised veto of gay-marriage legislation.

Alas, once again the favored few have latched onto the new "right" (as in "right and wrong") and tried to cram down the throats of the many their value system that insists that "man plus man" is in all ways equal to "woman plus man." In other words, saying the God of the Bible; the one referenced four times in the Declaration of Independence...got it wrong again.

Thankfully the governor of said state put a stop to Representative madness and made, once again, the sane and sensible call for a state-wide referendum on such an important issue.
And, of course, I'm not anti-individual.  But I am very much desirous of reasons for God to continue to...Bless America.  And, dear reader, continually calling Him a liar...is not the way to get there.

Our betters (Not!)

Who owe we?
(by R.P.Edwards)

Tell me, Sir
Who owe we?
The lofty
or
The less
Those who speak with eloquence
Or those who beat...the breast
Those from Ivory towers
Or those who bend the knee
Tell me, Sir
For freedom's sake!
To whom
The debtors
We?
Now, some would say
The former
Who rule the words
And waves
Who view themselves
As masters
All others
Merely
Slaves
But I contend the latter
Who grasp the ancient thread
That ties them to Creator
Whose power
Raised...the dead

The question, sent by a viewer, carefully coddled and displayed affectionately before the Republican candidates for President at a debate last week. Thus:

"Given that you oppose gay marriage, what do you want gay people to do who want to form loving, committed, long-term relationships? What is your solution?"

After going down the line--each "debater" gently offering a palatable defense of the sacred institution of traditional marriage--former speaker, Newt Gingrich, offered this addendum:

"Since we're spending this much time on these issues; I just want to raise a point about the news media bias. You don't hear the opposite question asked [he then listed difficulties that certain Catholic institutions had and have encountered because of their stand on traditional marriage, and then he concluded with]...the bigotry goes both ways, and there's a lot more anti-christian bigotry today than there is concerning the other side; and none of it gets covered by the news media."

Now, the reason for this simple piece--as the primaries amble on--is that there really is an adversarial force to be recognized and reckoned with. It's a body of believers, if you will, that preach a gospel quite foreign to the faith of the founders; quite distant from the traditionalists whose long ago contributions in blood in treasure secured the ease and idleness of this present age that has spawned, from godless institutions (whose beginnings were not so), the reprehensible persuasion that those with the "media microphone"--whose appearance is appealing, and words wooing--that these somehow "know" right from wrong; good from evil; truth from error.  Truly, they often do not.  But, since they "own" much of the communication venues...theirs is the filter through which sympathetic "choices" are often given preference.  And so...we decline a bit faster.

Now, I'm not offering a solution.  Just a hope that we be a bit wiser in the future and, since much that has been "championed" by the chosen is now proving to be without foundation; perhaps more than just we conservative types will be less apt to ascribe wisdom to the polished prose and purrings that gush from the biased media.

I recall writing a poem a couple years back concerning the influence of the media.  For your enjoyment:

4 + 5 = 0
(by R.P.Edwards)

The fourth estate
The column…five
A champion…that takes a dive
Depending on objective words
Instead…a swooning sound is heard
And we, the bearers of their lack
May never have our nation back
For Murrow’s children
Gone astray
Espouse “their” whims
Their preference…say
The heralds voice
A barkers jive
The fourth estate
Now…column five

A tale of two states

The Determiner
(by R.P.Edwards)

Desires
We all got ‘em
Some are good
And others
Not
Some need hard restrainin’
While others
Free to trot
So who determines doing?
The right, the wrong, to be?
The wise say
“The Creator”
The rest say
Only…me

We, the People of the State of Illinois - grateful to Almighty God for the civil, political and religious liberty which He has permitted us to enjoy and seeking His blessing upon our endeavors…do ordain and establish this Constitution for the State of Illinois
____

TO THE END, that justice be established, public order maintained, and liberty perpetuated; WE, the People of the State of Indiana, grateful to ALMIGHTY GOD for the free exercise of the right to choose our own form of government, do ordain this Constitution

Two states.  Two constitutions.  Two acknowledgments of a higher ruler; a higher government and governor.  Two states talking the talk.  But only one…walking the walk.

This week, Illinois, the Land of Lincoln, made “Civil Unions”--the pairing of same-sex couples--for all practical purposes equivalent with traditional marriage.  Thus:

Section 5. Purposes; rules of construction. This Act shall be liberally construed and applied to promote its underlying purposes, which are to provide adequate procedures for the certification and registration of a civil union and provide persons entering into a civil union with the obligations, responsibilities, protections, and benefits afforded or recognized by the law of Illinois to spouses

And so, in Illinois the goal is obvious: to make Homosexual marriage equivalent to Traditional Marriage.  And, by extension, to teach our posterity the “rightness” of this decision. Now, understand, I’m not a “gay-hater,” nor do I busy myself with concern over the bedroom antics of my co-workers or fellow citizens.  But, when those over us go out of their way to “create” morality in “their” image; when these so quickly abandon the foundational beliefs and traditions that ascribe blessing to  “Almighty God;” when these make it a matter of public policy to do the opposite of the divine will then I wonder, dear reader, if it‘s possible for God to justly extend “His blessing upon our endeavors.”

Now, let’s look to Indiana.

HB 1210 says (in part)

(b) An agency of the state may not:
(1) enter into a contract with; or
(2) make a grant to;
any entity that performs abortions or maintains or operates a facility where abortions are performed that involves the expenditure of state funds or federal funds administered by the state.

In other words.  The Hoosiers, holding to traditional values, have acted to forbid federal funding, allotted to the state, to be given to Planned Parenthood which lists, among it’s services, the destruction of human life (aka abortion). The Obama administration, unsurprisingly, has subsequently threatened the state with “penalties” if the will of the people is not reversed.

And so, we have two states.  Both talk of God.  But both act very differently.  And, since there is such a great distinction; such a disparity as to the divine will; this would be an excellent time for “the Supreme Judge of the world”--by His blessing, or lack thereof--to make His wishes known.

Ignorance in high places

Ignorance in high places
(by R.P.Edwards)

Ignorance
The ancient scourge
Oft aligned with way…and urge
A darkness for the devil’s deeds
Though often clothed in rules…and creeds
But think it not
The pauper’s tool
The sword of cads, and scoundrels…fools
For these but prick
With letting saw
But those that kill
They craft …the law

Eugenics. Big in the early part of the last century.  A helping hand to the Darwinian idea of “survival of the fittest.” It involved selective human breeding.  Breed in certain traits.  Breed out…others.  Allow some to reproduce; sterilize the undesirable.  And oh, Adolph H. ran with it but, truthfully, there were many in this country that added their “amen.”

Anyway, along the same vein there were, in many states, laws against the “mixing” of the races.  Miscegenation.  Some believed that the “white” folk should not marry non-whites and, by golly, it was a crime to do so.

Enter Mildred Jeter (black) and Richard Loving (white).  These two--like the surname--were in love, but there was a problem; they lived in Virginia and the law was agin’em. So, the lovebirds crossed over to DC, got married, and then went back.  Not much later, when, in the dark of night the police violently broke into their bedroom, the youngsters began to understand that the out of state marriage license (as far as the locals were concerned)…meant nothing.

Well, time and trouble later, the Supreme Court set everything right by invoking the fourteenth amendment (Equal Protection Claus.)  Here’s some quotes from the case:

The clear and central purpose of the Fourteenth Amendment was to eliminate all official state sources of invidious racial discrimination in the States.

Over the years, this Court has consistently repudiated "[d]istinctions between citizens solely because of their ancestry" as being "odious to a free people whose institutions are founded upon the doctrine of equality."

The freedom to marry has long been recognized as one of the vital personal rights essential to the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men.

Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival.

Now, fast forward to today and the uproar and upheaval concerning “gay marriage.”  After Judge Walker’s recent overturning of the people’s will in California by saying that restricting marriage to “one man and one woman” was unconstitutional, some commentators I respect suggested the coming (years away) Supreme Court battle will involve a rehash of the Loving vs. Virginia case leading, ultimately, to gay marriage.  Then, in passing, there was a brief comparison of the past error of “no-mix” to the present belief by some, “male and female, only.” Huh?

Well, unless I heard them wrong (I hope I did) this sentiment shows their profound…ignorance.  For, although it is popular in elite circles to equate sexual desire with race, the facts don’t back it up.  Indeed, I’ve heard, first hand, the testimony of an ex-homosexual (and read many more), but I’ve never heard the witness of an ex-white, or ex-black.  It’s plain to see: race and sexual orientation…are not the same.  However, when all is said and done I wouldn’t be surprised if the learned elite…have their way.  And, concerning their “I can’t believe such a law existed” words they ascribe to future generations looking back at the banning of gay marriage; I dare say the phrase “will” be spoken; but I’ll wager it will be aimed at the well groomed know-it-alls of today who, ultimately, know…little.
