No apologies

No Apologies
(by R.P.Edwards)

Apologize for being late
Or forgetting this or that
Apologize for a cough or sneeze
Or reactions to your cat
But in this day of clueless ease
From those who teach our youth
Never, never, never, never,
Never, never! NEVER!!
Apologize…for the truth

It was one of those lines that stood out.  A phrase that invoked a kind of “yeah, that ‘s right” reaction.  The setting:  I was in church and the minister was reminding us of a thing or two (good preachers do that.)  And the “things” of which he spoke, well, let’s just say that modern academia…is clueless.

Some groundwork: This morning I viewed some pictures of D-Day online.  A member of this yahoo “group” I frequent had posted it and, since Mom and Pop are a part of that generation, I was interested.  It got me to thinkin,’…so many lives; so many young fresh faces…cut down in their prime.  So many potential relationships, families, children, grandchildren…not to be.  Frankly, I can’t even imagine the magnitude of it.  Sure, I can grieve over those brave souls who defend us now, but, a WWII vet I sometimes speak with, when talking about the casualties of the current conflicts, he said, “We’d lose more men…before lunch.”  Again, I can’t even imagine.

Here’s the gist:  That generation that literally saved the world.  If you’ll allow me…That generation that the Lord used…to save the world, well, they had the ten commandments on the wall.  They had prayer and scripture reading in the public classroom.  They had clear definitions of right and wrong, good and evil, and, it was only after their sacrifice…that the twisters, redefiners, took hold, and took power.

So, to those who chafe at the oozings of academia and Hollywood, there’s a good reason.  You see, we are not from them.  They did not bring us here, and we are not birthed of their “knowledge” and notions.  Indeed, their “novel” definitions are merely old, failed, apostasies…in new clothes.  So, when the movie ‘teaches,’ and the actor ‘preaches,’ and the politician ‘proclaims,’ and the new ‘reverends’ exclaim; look down.  Look down to the blood stained foundation on which they stand.  It’s not my blood.  It’s not their blood.  It’s the life’s essence of those who have gone before and, if for no other reason, for them, for those who gave all…we must never, never, never, apologize…for the truth.

Of Quakes and Questions

The Shaking
(by R.P.Edwards)

When lives are shaken
Sifted…full
When all connected
Pushed
And pulled
When boundaries, borders
Cease to be
It’s then we learn
The truths…
Of me

It was a desperate time; a frantic, fearful, desperate...time.  The earthquake; the enormous earthquake (so much larger than any had expected), had shaken, not only their modest split level house (still, thankfully, habitable), but indeed, their whole existence.  Maria, a young bride of only twenty one years, gently cradled and rocked her sleeping baby girl (Alatea, three months old) as she anxiously looked out the front window for the return of her husband, Enrique, who had gone out (what seemed an eternity ago) into the unknown…to try and supply their needs.  Suddenly there was a special rapping on the back patio door!  It was Enrique!  A few moments later the two lovers embraced and then the provider brought in the rather large treasure he had retrieved…for his treasures.  Taking the child (who had awakened) from his wife’s arms, the man of the house looked on as Maria surveyed the hard fought haul.  After a half minute she turned and said, “You couldn’t get a fifty inch plasma?”  “Sorry, darling,” said the tired forager, “they were all gone.  But this thirty-two inch HD flat screen will do…for now.” “I suppose you're right,” agreed the mrs., taking the beginning to squirm child. “But I also have this,” he said with a mischievous smile as he quickly removed his red backpack and, placing it on the kitchen table, unzipped and then revealed a high-dollar, Dell laptop.  “Enrique!” squealed Maria.  “It’s just what I wanted!”

Sorry.  I don’t mean to diminish the trouble and tragedy in Chile.  But really, barely after the earth stops wobbling and the looters (certain unrestrained citizens) start going on a shopping spree?  Grocery store, I can see that.  But Plasma TV’s?  Now, granted, it hasn’t happened here (and I pray it never does), but I hope if we are visited by the unthinkable…that our first impulse is not to take…but to give.

Moral Equivalency

Moral Equivalency?
(by R.P.Edwards)

Moral Equivalency
What a Crock
Just listen to the eggheads talk
Dismissing murder
Shifting blame
Calling Day and Night the same
Their blather hinders
Muddies
Slows
Then heroes, first, receive the blows
And some will die from wounds so deep
All because of egghead… “speak”

The political science prof. bristled at the freshman’s assertion that there was somehow a difference in “moral standing” in regards to Israel’s strong reaction to--as the youngster put it--a terrorist attack.  “Mr. Jones,” said the tenured instructor, sitting back in his chair, hands behind his head, “I know you are a freshman, with an emphasis on “fresh” (a slight twittering from the class) but you will discover that here in the University, our level of inquiry and understanding is deeper than you and your Midwestern mind are accustomed to (a few more snickers from the seats).”  “But professor,” interrupted the transplanted farm boy, “the women and children?  The murdered women and children!”  The teacher raised his right hand for quiet.  “Enough, Mr. Jones!”  (there was a moment of silence as all focused on the figure at the front). “You will discover, young man,” continued the elder as he stood and reached for the chalk, “that things are not always as they seem.  In fact, I will show you how this particular incident is not black and white at all, but rather a distinctive shade of gray.”

We’re a few days distant from the Fort Hood massacre where thirteen (twelve soldiers, one civilian) were murdered by a Major Hasan, a Muslim terrorist in army fatigues.  As I discussed the incident with an acquaintance, he reminded me that the fallout was much more than the thirteen (make that “fourteen,” one was pregnant).  For each of these, no doubt, had loved ones and intimate friends that now must deal with a tragedy that could have been…avoided.  And you know, I can’t help feeling that some of the twisted morality, so prevalent in the halls of higher education (and thus the occupations fed by these tainted reservoirs) is partially to blame.  Indeed, the need to be politically correct and irrationally “tolerant” has put chains on our defenders, and blinders on their leadership.  And now…fourteen are dead.  And I wonder, how many more will die before we return to a standard of right and wrong, good and evil?  Yes, how many more will die?
